Faculty Talk 1 – Dr. Kristopher O. Davis
Kristopher O. Davis, Ph.D., presents “Interdisciplinary, Multi-Faceted Research to Accelerate the Adoption of Solar Energy Technologies.” He includes development of thin films and nanostructured materials that enhance optical absorption and limit the loss of charge carriers within photovoltaic devices; and characterization techniques that help researchers rapidly diagnose problems and develop solutions. He overviews the interdisciplinary team at UCF built to maximize benefits of PV systems to underserved communities
Faculty Talk 2 – Dr. Tania Roy
Tania Roy, Ph.D., presents “Devices for Artificial Intelligence Using Two-Dimensional Materials,” overviewing her work to make the electronic transistors behind AI more efficient. Her team is developing devices that function similar to the neurons and synapses of the human brain, which can serve as the building blocks of neural network hardware, using novel semiconductor 2D materials to make artificial neurons and synapses that can perform pattern recognition. She also introduces 2D materials that function similar to human optic nerves
