Admission to Candidacy is a significant milestone in your doctoral academic journey within the University of Central Florida’s College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS). Achieving candidacy signifies that you have successfully completed the foundational requirements of your Ph.D. program and have demonstrated readiness to conduct independent, original research leading to a dissertation. For you to enter into candidacy, you must complete the required coursework, establish an approved dissertation advisory committee, submit an approved program of study, fulfill the university’s required workshops, and successfully pass your program’s candidacy examination. Once admitted to candidacy, you may enroll in dissertation hours and focus primarily on advancing your research, contributing new knowledge to your field, and progressing toward the completion of your doctoral degree.
